Is mouth breathing keeping your child from getting a good night’s rest?

Respiratory obstruction, orofacial myofunctional disorders, and pharyngeal abnormalities can attribute to your child’s mouth breathing. Mouth breathing can be attributed to some sleep-disordered breathing (SBD) which refers to the collapse at any level of the upper airway resulting in abnormal breathing patterns while sleeping. Reduced oxygen levels in the brain has been linked to changes in the neural physiology and function of the brain which can impact daytime functioning. These changes have been linked to behavior issues, reduced attention, and emotional outbursts

My child is 2 years old and not talking very much. Is that normal?

A child at 2-years of age should use more verbal communication rather than gestures. They will use 2-3-word phrases for communication and answer simple questions. If your child seems frustrated or not using verbal communication to get wants/needs met, you should talk to your pediatrician for a referral for a speech evaluation.
